1. Microneedling is in Demand for its Anti-Aging Effects
Microneedling uses a device with sterile, single-use tips encasing surgical-grade needles that create microchannels. These channels stimulate the body’s natural healing response, creating a higher-than-normal production of collagen and elastin. As a result, skin tightens, reducing the appearance of fine lines, wrinkles, stretch marks, and scarring and aiding in the stimulation of healthy, new hair growth.
2. Conventional vs. Patented Method
There are two types of microneedling! The first, conventional microneedling, leaves the patient’s face bloody and requires a few days of downtime for recovery. The second, a patented method of microneedling, accomplishes the exact same results with NO bloody face and NO downtime.
3. The Bloody Face Method was a Publicity Stunt
The bloody-face method was actually a publicity stunt by Kim Kardashian and her facial team.
4. The Bloody Face Method is ILLEGAL in Several States
In many States, an esthetician performing a treatment that damages the epidermis to the point of widespread bleeding is against the law (especially in NJ but including NY).
5. The Popular Name for this Treatment is Trademarked
If you haven’t heard of microneedling, you’ve definitely heard of the popular term when referring to Dracula getting a facial. This name is actually trademarked and cannot be used without paying the man who owns the trademark, Charles E. Runels, Jr.1.
6. Two Levels of Microneedle Devices
Not all microneedles are created equal. There are two types available via professional companies: “Esthetic” and “Medical.” The main difference is that esthetic MN devices cannot make channels as deeply as medical devices. Each State has requirements on what legal depths are dependent upon your license. Proper training provides the necessary knowledge and skill to treat all skin types and colors.
7. State Laws Regulating Microneedling
After the massive Kardashian publicity stunt, States stepped in to regulate microneedling and ensure it is as safe as possible. States require a specific type of license to use a microneedle, and many states require the practice to be performed by medical professionals.
Insurance is tricky too, and it varies by state. Even when delivered shallowly, MN falls under the medical-esthetic insurance category, not “regularly covered esthetic” insurance. If you do not have the proper education, you may not know how to operate compliantly with your State law and Insurance requirements.
8. A Formal Training is the Best Way to Break into Microneedling
Microneedling is in demand for its many benefits, but between learning the methods of the form, understanding State regulations, and jumping through insurance hoops, it is in your best interest to get into the microneedle business with formal training and assistance.
